Writing for Technical Specialists
Participants become more efficient writers/designers by learning how to analyze a writing situation, plan a document, write effectively, manage a review process, edit their work, and write in a variety of media, including online.
Note: This course does not address writing EAs and EISs.

Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to do the following:

Content
We tailor each workshop to meet the needs of the participants. The basic format of the interactive workshop includes the following components:
- Managing the Writing Process
Learn how to understand the concept of Front Loading, use document planners and style sheets, analyze an audience, determine a document’s purpose, and make a prototype.
- Using Graphics
Learn about various types of graphics and how and when to use them.
- Drafting and Reviewing
Learn how to produce a working first draft of a document and conduct peer and managerial review sessions.
- Revising Your Document
Learn about the various levels of document revision and how to select which level is appropriate for your document.
- Writing Letters, Memos, Summaries, and Procedures
Learn about the rules, formats, and organizational patterns that apply when preparing letters, memos, executive summaries, and procedures.
- Writing Electronically
Learn how to adapt your writing to different formats, use e-mail effectively, understand the demands of various electronic media, and explore some basic principles of online design.

Audience
Workshop participants generally include people who need to write clear and readable documents in any situation. Participants will learn how to improve their e-mails, memos, and all other avenues of written communication.
Process
Writing for Technical Specialists is an interactive workshop designed to build practical skills. For optimum learning, class size is limited to 20 participants.
This workshop consists of a carefully designed combination of the following:
- 30% Lecture
- 70% Exercise and discussion
