Some Assembly Required

Many
of us probably had fresh experiences with these three dreaded words this
past Christmas. Many toys and boxed tools or furniture display this
label. And if you did confront these words, you probably experienced the
usual frustrations of searching for missing or mislabeled parts and of
deciding if bracket C attaches to board K.
Perhaps
many EISs (Environmental Impact Statements) or EAs (Environmental
Assessments) should also have “Some Assembly Required” printed on
their covers. After all, readers frequently have to hunt for missing
information and then assemble their own chain of evidence for impact
conclusions....more

to view The U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service today released its final rule that provides the framework for individual forest management plans governing the 155 national forests and 20 grasslands. For the first time, an Environmental Management System (EMS) will be used during the planning process to improve performance and accountability. The rule establishes a dynamic process to account for changing forest conditions, emphasizes science and public involvement, and ultimately will help local forest managers provide future generations with healthier forests, cleaner air and water, and more abundant wildlife while sustaining a variety of forest uses. click

STEPS IN COMPLYING WITH SECTION 110
OF
THE NATIONAL HISTORIC PRESERVATION ACT
- Identify existing plans and surveys or
inventories.
- Consult with the State Historic Preservation
Officer (SHPO) [Tribal Historic Preservation Officer (THPO)]
about a preparation of a Programmatic Agreement.
- Consult with SHPO (THPO) about the preparation of
the Programmatic Agreement itself.
- Prepare a statement of work for a cultural
resource management plan.
Ask the SHPO (THPO) and the Council to review
your SOW.
- Prepare a draft CRMP and submit it in accordance
with the terms of the PA.
- Implement the plan.
- Review and amend the plan.
