HOW TO BUILD DOCUMENT DESIGN
INTO EVERY DOCUMENT WRITTEN

  1. Develop as early as possible a style sheet for the final document/web page.
  2. Test the style sheet to see if it will help readers move easily from topic to topic.  A good style sheet should enhance the usability of the information in a document or at the web site.
  3. Use the style sheet to prepare a full mock-up or prototype of the document.  A useful mock-up or prototype includes sketches of possible graphics.
  4. Plan for and budget for usability tests to determine if the prototype or the projected web document is a usable document.
