Feature Article

The Shipley Group is pleased to print the following retrospective, written by Jake Rajala. Jake recently retired after some 30 years as a NEPA coordinator. As a long-time friend and client, Jake has worked with Shipley consultants to improve his agency's NEPA compliance processes. At the same time, his many thoughtful comments and questions have challenged us to reconsider some of our own NEPA assumptions. We thank him for this retrospective.

NEPA Retrospective
Guest Article by Jake Rajala

“This National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) retrospective is based on my 30 years of working in NEPA compliance for a Federal land management agency. It critiques the NEPA compliance process as currently practiced and profiles the role of an agency’s environmental coordinator. This guest article does not represent the views of the Shipley Group or of any Federal agency, but it provides my personal observations about the intricacies of NEPA compliance.”
