Discussion:
Review of John Lombard’s Saving Puget Sound: A Conservation Strategy for the 21st Century (Bethesda, Maryland: American Fisheries Society, 2006)

by Larry Freeman, PhD
The Shipley Group, Senior Consultant

John Lombard’s Saving Puget Sound is an excellent survey of the ecological and political problems arising from current efforts to save the greater Puget Sound ecoregion (his preferred term for ecosystem). His comprehensive and practical approach was what drew the book to my attention.  Click here to view the entire article

USUUtah State University Department of Environment and Society NEPA Certificate Program

The NEPA Certificate Program was designed to prepare natural resource and environmental professionals to meet the challenges of complying with the act and working effectively on NEPA documents. We believe participants who successfully complete the program will have a solid understanding of both the spirit and the letter of the law, and will be more effective members of interdisciplinary teams responsible for developing NEPA documents. Shipley News NEPA Monthly Tip

Steps to Ensure a Quality Interactive
Onsite Training Workshop

In our over 30 years of training we have discovered that many training workshops meet the desired outcome better than others because of these steps:

  1. Schedule the training early—even if it means “penciling-in” the dates with Shipley, while waiting for final financing/procurement or contracting issues to be resolved
    • Early coordination allows for the consultant/ trainer, hosting agency/company to outline specific issues for tailoring the workshop.
    • Materials can be received and prepared for incorporation into the curriculum.
    • Participants can be better prepared for the training workshop.
  2. Outline specific objectives
    • By identifying and outlining the objectives, the representative at Shipley can determine which consultant/trainer is a better match.
    • Assist your agency/organization by making the training part of the educational development plan of the participants.
    • Use the training to assist in a specific project or anticipated project
  3. Identify audience/participants
    • Knowing who is going to be attending the workshop will help the consultant/trainer prepare for the workshop and meet the participants on the right level.

At The Shipley Group we are committed to making your training as effective as possible. Our goal is to provide the very best training for you and your organization.
